Combined PGY1 PGY2 Pharmacy Administration And Leadership With Masters

Program purpose:

The Combined PGY1/PGY2/MS Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency program at Children’s Health provides training and competency for aspiring pharmacy leaders in delivering patient-centered care. This program will prepare residents to assume high-level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities.

Areas of competence emphasized during the program include safe and effective medication use, quality improvement and assurance, management of human resources and financial resources, and use of technology. The residency lays the foundation for continued growth in leadership and management.

Program description

PGY1 HSPAL program

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency creates an environment to promote refined problem-solving strategies, strong professional values, and growth through supervised practice under the guidance of model practitioners. Residents will be responsible for acquiring outcome-based competencies for managing and optimizing the medication-use process and providing evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary teams.

PGY2 HSPAL program

The PGY2 Pharmacy Residency builds upon skills developed during the PGY1 experience, focusing on pharmacy administration and leadership in various areas of the health system. The resident will be familiarized with five distinct areas of practice: Senior Leadership, Inpatient Clinical Pharmacy Practice, Inpatient Operations, Ambulatory Operations, and Medication-Use Safety. The two longitudinal structures of choice will develop competence in high-level managerial and leadership responsibilities.

Program structure

The program director will create a development plan for each resident at the beginning of the program. The experiential component shall consist of the following core or elective learning experiences. The resident's needs and interests and the residency program's attributes will be utilized in developing the plan. Additional elective rotations may be available based on the resident’s interest and skill set.
