Armani enjoys an active childhood while managing his asthma
When Armani was just 3 years old, he began suffering from asthma attacks that were so severe, they would often send him straight to the emergency room. His pediatrician, Ghadir Abdelhadi Issa, M.D., started him on regular nebulizer treatments at home, but over time, the intensity of his attacks continued to increase.

Expert care for high risk and low risk asthma
The care team for inpatient, meaning hospitalized patients, and outpatient, meaning doctor's appointments, at Children's Health service severe and high risk asthma. Your child's care team includes clinical pulmonologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and social workers. Our primary care providers treat low risk asthma in a primary care environment.
We help families manage asthma at home
Our Joint Commission certified Asthma Management Program links in-home education, environmental assessment, family self-management skills and primary care physician involvement to deal with the complexities of treating patients with asthma. Asthma is among the top three admitting diagnoses at Children’s Health. All patients admitted to Children’s Health for asthma receive a personalized home management plan of care and individualized bedside education (based on NHLBI guidelines), consults with social work, child life, nutrition and other departments as needed.

Managing Asthma - There are about 20 million people in the United States with asthma. Some children are not able to play sports or take physical education (PE). Their asthma is not well controlled. Children with poorly controlled asthma miss 14 or more school days each year.
School Forms - In 2003 the State of Texas passed a law stating that students could carry their reliever asthma inhalers with them to school if the parents and HCP (health care provider) agree and if both gave written permission.
