Biography

Samuel Zachary Davila, M.D., is a pediatric heart specialist who practices pediatric critical care and cardiac critical care medicine at Children’s Health℠.

Dr. Davila treats children who have a wide range of issues, such as heart failure and congenital heart disease, including single ventricle heart defects. His clinical and research areas of interest include treating sepsis and other life-threatening infections with specific interest in those that affect patients who have had transplants.

“I enjoy helping critically ill patients get better and progress to the point when they can go home and live happy, healthy lives with their families,” says Dr. Davila.

Dr. Davila earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2005. He completed a pediatrics residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri in 2009. In 2014, he completed fellowships at Washington University where he focused on pediatric infectious disease and pediatric critical care medicine.

Dr. Davila attributes his interest in medicine to an “amazing” primary care doctor who took great care of him and his family years ago. “I was fascinated by his work and wanted to do what he did,” remembers Dr. Davila.

Today, Dr. Davila also serves as Associate Professor in pediatrics at UT Southwestern.

At home, Dr. Davila enjoys spending time with his wife and two little boys – kicking soccer balls and taking trips to the zoo and dinosaur exhibits. He likes nothing better than when he can send his patients home to live normal lives, “just like I live with my family.”
